POLYCHROME V3+4
While I was happy with the development, I think the design was simplified nicely and my shoemaking skills had improved, it didn't take long for me to tear this sample apart from top to bottom. I looked at every square millimeter and made notes on improvements for the next round of samples.

These physical markups, along with four pages of notes in my journal got me started on the next sample. Luckily, I had found a set of rubber soles that are just what I was looking for for this project. However, this choice of sole necessitated a change in last from a Jordan inspired last to a Vans inspired one.
Along the development, I found myself going back and searching through my notes to look up old materials selections, component sources, etc. so I decided I had better keep better track of everything in a spec sheet. I also made a quick rendering, if I ever needed to revisit with a different colorway. The next sample used a colorway thought up by my brother, for whom this pair was made.

Unfortunately, I neglected to take any in-process photos for this round of sampling, but the end result was a definite improvement! I'm getting the overall shape of the shoe down, and the construction is near perfect. Aside from some minor stitching issues, topline structure issues, and trouble with the sidewall stitching machine, I am happy with the result, and so is my brother. I added some details that would be suited for a retail environment like proper packaging and multiple shoelace combinations.
A clear step forward, for sure, but I think I can refine it further. Logo addition, proportions in the heel area, and issues with the construction are all minor problems that need to be ironed out. Among my to-do list, and arguably the most important, is sourcing a last with better toe proportions, but still fits the cupsole properly. As I wait for those to arrive, I can work on other projects.
